- Engineering Task Force did not give it official standard status
- because while it followed the spirit of HTML much better than
- Netscape's hacks, Netscape had dominated the browser market and swept
- the carpet from below any standard definitions with their ad-hoc
- additions. The work on standardizing a next generation HTML syntax was
- given up as a hopeless struggle.

- Instead, IETF standardized HTML Level 2, which is what AWeb
- implements. In addition to that base standard, there are proposed
- additions such as tables etc, taken from the now-invalidated drafts of
- HTML+, HTML 3.0, and such.
